SPOILERS FOR THE CITADEL SEASON 1 FINALE AHEAD!

Citadel‘s first season ends with Mason Kane (Richard Madden) finally revealing the truth about himself: He’s British! No, that’s not the most shocking reveal in the Citadel Season 1 finale on Prime Video? Okay, well I was shocked to hear Richard Madden trade his fake American accent for a fake “Queen’s English” one.

No, the Citadel Season 1 finale revealed which spy betrayed Citadel’s secrets to Manticore and it was not Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas)! The full puzzle doesn’t click into place until Mason’s normie alter ego reclaims all of the super spy’s memories, revealing Mason’s deepest, darkest secret: that he’s British. No, but he is actually the son of twisted diplomat and Manticore operator Dahlia Archer (Lesley Manville). And we learn that desperation drove Mason to his mother for one massive Nadia-related favor.

The Citadel Season 1 finale is full of twists, turns, and one post-episode teaser for a brand new show called Citadel: Diana. Here’s everything you need to know about the end of Citadel‘s first season on Prime Video…

Citadel Season 1 Ending Explained:

The final episode of Citadel reveals the lengths Mason Kane went to reunite with Nadia and what he did once he found out she went off-grid to have a baby. And it’s bad, y’all!

The reason why Mason Kane is the only person with the bio code to unlock those five nuclear warheads Dahlia wants so badly for Manticore is because he held them hostage for intel on where Nadia went once she left Citadel. It doesn’t work. When his Citadel superiors let him down, Mason goes to Dahlia for help. It’s revealed that Dahlia is Mason’s mother. She abandoned him after his father’s death and the traumatized little British boy rebuilt himself as American super spy Mason Kane.

During their conversation, Dahlia reveals that Citadel murdered Mason’s father with a drone strike and covered it up with bribes to NATO, the USA, and every other international organization. Still posing as a diplomat, she asks her son to give her access to Citadel’s secrets so she can try them for war crimes. What she actually does is use this information to murder all of Citadel’s spies.

Meanwhile, Mason takes the information that Dahlia gives him — that Nadia is in Valencia — and asks Bernard (Stanley Tucci) to track her down. Bernard reveals Asha’s existence and implores Mason to father his daughter. Mason refuses. The next time he sees Nadia is the fateful mission on the train that opens the series.

In the Citadel Season 1 finale, we watch as Nadia and “Kyle” work together to retrieve the warheads from the submarine in exchange for Asha’s life. Eventually, they are able to kill Davik (Roland Møller), save Asha (Serafina Tarafdar), and stymy Dahlia’s plans. When they arrive with Carter Spence (Osy Ikhile) at the U.S. Citadel HQ, “Kyle” is reunited with “Abby” (Ashleigh Cummings) and Hendrix (Caoilinn Springall). Carter and Nadia immediately realize “Abby” is Celeste.

Carter reveals he has a back up of Mason Kane’s memories and “Kyle” takes the injection. Afterwards, an upset Mason coolly tells “Abby” that he doesn’t remember anything, but he remembers everything, including how he set up Citadel.

Will There Be a Citadel Season 2?

Yes! Amazon has already ordered a second season of Citadel. However, it probably won’t hit Prime Video until 2025 at the earliest.

Don’t fret, though. Amazon has another story set in the Citadel “Spyverse” coming out next year…
