Harrison Ford has built a career on being a stoic man of few words and emotions, but that tough exterior cracked a bit at Cannes this week when the actor got emotional at a screening of the latest Indiana Jones film.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny had its world premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival on Thursday (May 18), and after the film ended, the audience gave the film a five-minute standing ovation.

Ford’s reaction was caught on camera, and he was visibly moved by the overwhelming support. The 80-year-old actor has said that this film marks his last outing as Indy, a character he has played for 40 years, making the moment all the more emotional for him.

Ford was similarly touched just before the film began, when he was given an honorary Palme d’Or award and made a speech where he thanked his wife, Calista Flockhart, and his collaborators on the film, and told the audience, “I’m deeply moved by this honor.”

Flockhart was in attendance to support Ford at Cannes, and the couple, who have been together since 2002 and married since 2010, walked hand-in-hand on the red carpet.

A private moment between them as Flockhart readied herself for the red carpet shows yet another sweet side of Ford, who beamed as he looked at his wife.

After a season spent watching Shrinking, where Ford plays a gruff but kind therapist who is coming to terms with his Parkinson’s Disease, we’re already on board with him showing his vulnerable side. At Cannes, he’s showing us that maybe he’s just been a big old softie the whole time.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be in theaters June 30.
