Big Mouth — the beloved coming-of-age animated sitcom — has officially been renewed by Netflix for an eighth and final season. The news comes even before an official release date for Season 7 of the Emmy Award-winning show.
According to Deadline, who first reported the news, the series’ spinoff Human Resources will also come to an end after its second season. Its characters and storylines will be incorporated into the final installment of Big Mouth, which will serve as a sendoff for both series.
Big Mouth — which follows a group of students as they openly navigate puberty and sex — was inspired by Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg‘s upbringing in suburban New York, with the former voicing the fictional version of his younger self.
“If you would have told adolescent Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg that middle school would take eight years to finish, they would have been like, ‘Yeah, that sounds about right,'” Kroll said, per Deadline. “‘This seems like it will never end.'”
The animated series — which also features voiceovers from John Mulaney, Maya Rudolph and Jordan Peele — already holds the record for Netflix’s longest-running original scripted series.
“Big Mouth is a towering achievement in animated comedy that will make Netflix history for its longevity,” Billy Wee, Netflix’s Director of Adult Animation, said in a statement. “We are thrilled that we still have two more hilarious seasons to share with fans before this brilliant coming-of-age story reaches its conclusion.”
While a release date for Big Mouth Season 7 has not yet been announced, you can now stream the first six seasons on Netflix.
