Does it ever drive you crazy just how fast the night changes? One moment, One Direction fans have their sights set on a potential reunion, and the next, James Corden is ripping it from their cold, desperate hands.

For weeks, fans of the disassembled boy band have theorized that Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and possibly even Zayn Malik, would reunite for the final broadcast of The Late Late Show with James Corden, given that Corden is a vocal fan of the bunch.

After Malik’s controversial exit in 2014, the group made their first official public appearance on the CBS talk show, confirming that they will continue making music as a four-piece group.

Following the appearance, the “What Makes You Beautiful” singers released the single “Drag Me Down,” which was followed by “Infinity” and “Perfect,” leading to Made in the A.M., their fifth and final studio album.

One Direction went on hiatus in November 2015 and have not performed together since.with each band member opting to pursue solo projects instead.

Addressing rumors of the reunion, the Late Late Show Twitter account wrote, “Nobody loves the boys more than us … but this story just isn’t true,” sharing an image of a headline from The Daily Mail, reporting on the speculation.

The caption continued, “What is true is we’ve got an absolutely brilliant 2 hour finale planned to celebrate 8 years of #LateLateShow at 10pm on April 27th.”

The rumors can be traced back to the popular celebrity gossip site DeuxMoi. In March, one fan tweeted, “Deuxmoi is a gossip website! People will anonymously submit rumors they hear, couples they see, etc. this is somebody saying the rumor they heard is 1D is gonna reunite for James Corden’s last show!”

Some fans are fighting back against the talk show, stating that they still have hopes for the band reuniting for Corden’s special day. “Guess what? I don’t believe you, I know you’re tryna keep it secret,” wrote one fan.

Another said, “Me: Of course they weren’t going to get back together for the Late Late Show. Stop clowning. Also me: This could be a double bluff, trust nothing.”

Over the years, the band members have made appearances on the talk show to promote their solo endeavors with singer-turned-movie-star Styles being a frequent guest.

Corden announced his exit from the show last April, telling viewers, “I am so proud of what we’ve achieved. It’s been beyond my wildest, wildest dreams.” The final episodes features appearances from Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, Tom Cruise, Brett Goldstein, Seth Meyers, and the Kardashian family.

CBS will reboot the game show @midnight in place of Corden’s talk show.

The Late Late Show finale airs April 27 at 10PM ET on CBS.
