Owen Wilson Believes Nancy Meyers Rom-Com ‘Paris Paramount’ Will Still Happen After Being Shelved by Netflix

Fear not, Nancy Meyers fans! Owen Wilson — who was set to star in the director’s new rom-com Paris Paramount — is confident that the highly anticipated project will eventually come to fruition after it was reportedly shelved by Netflix.

While speaking on Sirius XM’s The Jess Cagle Show, Wilson said he believes Meyers is shopping the film around to different studios.

“It’s a really good, funny script, and so I think she is kind of talking with some other places,” he said. “I bet that it ends up happening somewhere down the road, which would be nice because like I said, I think the script’s pretty funny and good.”

Meyers recently cleared up any confusion over her upcoming work in an Instagram post, where she confirmed the Paris Paramount title, which was “from a quote by the brilliant and elegant comedy director (dare I say creator of the romantic comedy) Ernst Lubitsch.”

She also told her followers that the movie is about “a group of people making a film and the magic and mystery of what we do.”

Aside from Wilson, the rom-com — which was originally green-lit by Netflix in April 2022 — was also set to star Scarlett Johansson, Michael Fassbender and Penélope Cruz.

Last month, it was reported that Netflix had shelved the $130 million flick, which was set to bring Meyers out of retirement. The news came weeks after the streaming giant had allegedly shut down the Parent Trap director’s request for a $150 million budget, despite Meyers’ teaming claiming that “it would be hard to make the movie” without the extra $20 million.

The director, whose debut film was The Parent Trap starring Lindsay Lohan, went on to become well-known for her coastal grandmother aesthetic in iconic films like What Women WantFather of the Bride and The HolidayHer most recent movie — The Intern starring Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro — was released in 2015.
