Gwyneth Paltrow Found Innocent In Skiing Trial Of The Century, Is Now Exactly $1 Richer

After eight truly entertaining days in court, a jury has found Gwyneth Paltrow not guilty of skiing into a man on the slopes at a Utah ski resort.

Plaintiff Terry Sanderson, a retired optometrist, had accused the Oscar-winning actress of skiing into him and being “out of control” after a collision between the two occurred at Deer Valley Resort in Park City, UT in February, 2016. Though he originally sought more than $3 million from the actress, he reduced that amount to $300,000 and stated that he had sustained broken ribs and a concussion which left him with lasting brain trauma. Paltrow counter-sued Sanderson for one dollar and the cost of her legal fees, stating that he was in fact the one who skied into her. After more than a week of testimony including a memorable stint on the stand from Paltrow herself, the Utah jury deliberated today, ultimately siding with the actress and finding her not guilty of causing the accident. The jury also stated that Sanderson was 100% at fault for the collision.

The trial gripped the nation for days, with some referring to the wild, often cringe-worthy testimony as a clown show, and others focusing on Paltrow’s luxe, GOOP-y wardrobe in the courtroom.

Paltrow declined to give a comment in the courtroom after the verdict was read, though she released a statement through her lawyers, saying, “I felt that acquiescing to a false claim compromised my integrity. I am pleased with the outcome and I appreciate all of the hard work of Judge Holmberg and the jury, and thank them for their thoughtfulness in handling this case.”

On her way out of the courtroom, Paltrow did extend an olive branch to Sanderson, leaning over to say, “I wish you well,” as she departed.
