Hugh Grant appeared on The View this week with his signature rom-com charm turned all the way up to 10 after a rather awkward encounter with Ashley Graham at the Oscars this weekend. But Grant and the hosts largely steered clear of the question at the top of everyone’s mind that day: What the hell happened during that red carpet interview

At the Oscars this weekend, the 62-year-old actor was pulled for an interview with Graham on the red carpet before the ceremony. The interview started out normally enough as Graham asked him the standard red carpet question: “What’s your favorite thing about coming to the Oscars?”

Grant replied, “Um. Well. It’s fascinating. The whole of humanity is here. It’s Vanity Fair.”

But she seemed to have misinterpreted his literary reference as him referring to the magazine and its famed Oscars after-party. And it only went downhill from there.

When asked who he was excited to see, Grant responded, “No one in particular.” When Graham asked if he had fun appearing in the Oscar-nominated Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery he said, “Well, I’m barely in it. I’m in it for about three seconds.”

That viral moment did not come up once in the interview, even after Whoopi Goldberg brought up the NSFW joke Grant cracked on stage while presenting an award with his Four Weddings and a Funeral co-star Andie Macdowell

Overall, the interview went swimmingly – with zero mention of Graham, but viewers at home were furious that the topic did not even come up.

“Why didn’t they ask him about the pre-Oscar interview  with Ashley Graham?” one user tweeted. “They always handle these celebrities with kid gloves.”

“So, I guess Hugh Grant went to the #TheView with the agreement not to touch what happened with him and Ashley Graham? Because not a word, let alone a sentence!” another viewer wrote

Grant appeared in good spirits throughout the interview. He even boldly admitted he wanted to kiss three of The View hosts when he was making his entrance.

“He was absolutely delightful. If this was a way to show a better side of him from Oscar night, you achieved it,” someone remarked on Twitter. “However, I wish he had said something like, ‘hey it was just an awkward moment – we all have them.’”

Graham, on the other hand, addressed the situation on Monday to TMZ. “You know what, my mama told me to kill people with kindness,” she said. She later said she “had so much fun” that evening.

It looks like the ball is in Grant’s court, now. Will he ever address that viral moment?

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
