Quentin Tarantino’s Last Film Might Be ‘The Movie Critic’

Four years after Quentin Tarantino released his Oscar-winning movie Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, the auteur is finally ready to begin working on his 10th and final film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources claim that Tarantino already has a script written called The Movie Critic. Though not many details are known, the movie is reportedly set in Los Angeles in the ‘70s with a female lead.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Tarantino’s final movie could be about the prolific film critic Pauline Kael, who spent a brief period consulting at Paramount in the ‘70s. Considering how Once Upon A Time In Hollywood explored that period of time in the industry with its own surprising twist, it might be safe to assume that viewers shouldn’t expect a straight forward period film from the director.

Tarantino has been transparent about retiring after ten films for some time now.

“I’ve been doing it for a long time; I’ve been doing it for 30 years. And it’s time to wrap up the show,” he told Chris Wallace on an episode of Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? last November.

But he said that details about the film were not yet finalized at the time. When asked if he knew what his “10th and last film is going to be,” Tarantino responded: “No, I don’t, at all, ’cause I’m also not in a giant hurry to make my last movie.”

The award-winning director maintained that he didn’t want to “become this old man who’s out of touch.”

As Tarantino’s final movie, The Movie Critic has a lot of pressure weighing on it. The director has said before that he thinks filmmakers tend to make poorer movies towards the end of their careers.

“Directors don’t get better as they get older. Usually the worst films in their filmography are those last four at the end,” he told Playboy in 2012. “I am all about my filmography, and one bad film f—s up three good ones.”

Sources claim Tarantino is currently preparing to begin directing The Movie Critic this fall.
