Chelsea Handler made a pass at Republican Sen. Mitt Romney while hosting The Daily Show last night during a segment about Tuesday’s (Feb. 7) State of the Union.

The Republican senator was caught in a tense conversation with Rep. George Santos, as the latter was recently caught in an entanglement of lies – which has led to an investigation from the House Ethics Committee.

In footage shown by Handler, Romney reportedly told Santos, “you’ve got to be embarrassed” and called him an “ass” multiple times during their encounter during the event.

When the cameras cut back to the host, she admitted, “I would like to go on the record tonight and say that I am sexually attracted to Mitt Romney.”

Handler continued, “It’s not the first time, and it won’t be the last time. I don’t even care that he’s a Republican or a Mormon.” Actually, those two features make him more enticing to the comedian.

She added, “In fact, since he’s a Mormon, he’ll be open to another wife, and if not he’s a Republican, so he’ll be open to having an affair. Problem solved.”

Changing the subject, Handler said, “What Romney said doesn’t sound too harsh, but remember, it’s Mitt Romney. ‘You ought to be embarrassed, son’ is the Mormon equivalent of ‘suck my fucking dick, you pussy ass bitch.'”

Unfortunately for the comedian, it looks like Romney has his hands full dealing with Santos’ attempt to further discredit the Republican Party. According to USA Today, after the SOTU address, Romney bad-mouthed Santos to the press. “If he had any shame at all, he wouldn’t be there,” Romney told reporters, adding that Santos is like “a sick puppy” and doesn’t deserve his seat in Congress.

Nevertheless, I ship it.

As reported last December, The Daily Show is cycling through a series of guest hosts following Trevor Noah’s departure. Handler is the fourth host thus far, following Leslie Jones, Wanda Sykes and D.L. Hughley.

Future hosts include Sarah Silverman, Hasan Minhaj, John Leguizamo, Al Franken, Kal Penn and Marlon Wayans. Per Deadline, Comedy Central is considering Roy Wood Jr., Desi Lydic and Jordan Klepper to succeed as permanent replacements for Noah or a “hosting duo or trio.”

The Daily Show airs weeknights at 11/10c on Comedy Central. Watch Handler’s full monologue in the video above.
