Adam Scott Still Mortified by This Awkward ‘Boy Meets World’ Moment Nearly 30 Years Later

Adam Scott has proven that he’s just like us. Nearly 30 years after starring in the 1990s sitcom Boy Meets World, he admitted that there was an awkward encounter from his time on set that’s still on his mind.

Earlier this week, Scott appeared on an episode of the Pod Meets World podcast, hosted by co-stars Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong and Will Friedle.

While Scott wasn’t a main player in the long-running television series, he starred in four episodes in Seasons 2 and 3 as school bully Griffin Hawkins. During the podcast, he said, “It was my first time being on a real set that’s built on a stage.” He added, “Everyone was so nice and I had no idea how I was supposed to behave.” The actor described the set environment as “brand new” and said he was “nervous and freaked out” by the experience.

Reflecting on their early days on set, Fishel agreed that it could be an intense situation. “Now, as adults we realize that no one knows any idea what they’re doing, ever.”

She continued, “We’ve realized everyone thinks we knew everything that’s going on and that we were being filled in on what was happening, but we knew nothing,” adding, “It was a constantly changing environment.”

The Severance actor later explained that he had a few “awkward interactions” while filming the series. Scott said that one particular interaction has “been tugging at me for 29 years.” While recalling the Season 2 wrap, he said, “The scene ends and everyone just erupts and starts cheering. Blake and Ethan high five and hug, and they come up to me and high five,” referring to to his co-stars Ethan Suplee and Blake Soper – whom he said “took him under their wing” earlier in the podcast.

He told Strong, “Then Blake and Ethan go up to you, Rider, and they give you a high-five and hug you and, after they do that, I’m like, ‘Hey, congratulations, buddy,’ and I give you a high five, and I go in to hug you. As I do that, you push me off and you give me this look like, ‘Wait a second, who the fuck are you?’ and then you ran away.”

Strong denied the interaction, while Scott joked, “That means it wasn’t a traumatic experience for you.” He continued, “But I remember just being like, ‘Oh, no, no, no, no! I’m sorry! What just happened? No, no no.’” He went on to call the situation “horrifying.”

Fishel related this interaction to a conversation that they had earlier in the podcast where Scott recalled the time he saw a post on a message board from Fishel’s alleged peer stating that nobody liked Scott on set.

Fishel denied that rumor, saying, “For one thing, that just wasn’t true. Nobody didn’t like you, that was not the situation.” She explained, “I didn’t talk about Boy Meets World at school. If someone asked me a question I would, but it wasn’t super cool to be gone from school all the time.”

When Scott wasn’t invited back for the next season, the actor said he figured it was because he was “terrible.” But, lucky for him, that wasn’t the case. He went on to star in a variety of movies and television shows. Some of his popular roles, to this date, include playing Ben Wyatt in Parks & Recreation, Derek Huff in Step Brothers and Henry Pollard in Party Down.

New podcast episodes of Pod Meets World air on Mondays and Thursdays.
