Powered by Reelgood

Have you already watched your way through this year’s Golden Globe-winning movies? There are still plenty of great new movies on VOD that are making their way to streaming this week, including Devotion, starring Glen Powell and Jonathan Majors as soldiers trying to keep one another alive amid the Korean War, and The Seven Faces of Jane, an anthology of shorts all starring Gillian Jacobs. And then there’s The Old Way, another entry on Nicolas Cage’s illustrious and lengthy IMDb page.

For all the dozens of films Nicolas Cage has made, The Old Way is his first Western. He stars as Colton Briggs who, like so many cinematic gunslingers before him, just wants to leave his shoot-’em-up lifestyle behind. Years after settling down, the Briggs family is threatened by a young man whose father Colton killed decades earlier, and who now seeks revenge. The twist is that Colton’s unlikely ally in the battle between families is his own young daughter Brooke (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), who is 12.

These are just a few of the titles that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now!

The Seven Faces of Jane

The Seven Faces of Jane stars Gillian Jacobs as a single mother named Jane who has a series of adventures around her hometown of Los Angeles. The anthology-style film features eight vignettes, each helmed by a different director (including Jacobs herself, as well as Gia Coppola, Jacobs’ former Community co-star Ken Jeong, and Alexandra Cassavettes), though none of the directors involved had any understanding of what their co-directors were creating. The final shorts were assembled by producer Roman Coppola into a narrative which also co-stars Joel McHale (Jeff and Britta!), Chido Nwokocha, and Daniela Hernandez.

Devotion

Devotion is a war story starring Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell that’s based on the 2015 book Devotion: An Epic Story of Heroism, Friendship, and Sacrifice by Adam Makos. In it, Majors stars as naval officer Jesse Brown, the only African American member of his unit in 1950. He befriends Powell’s Lt. Tom Hudner, who becomes close with Brown’s family and promises Brown’s wife to protect Brown after the men are deployed to Europe and then Korea amid the war that breaks out there. Amid the deadly fighting, their relationships with their fellow officers as well as their own friendship, are tested, but they’re willing to sacrifice whatever they have to for one another.
