This week, we’re talking about a wonderful woman who has been serving up delectable, varied, and engaging performances on screens big and small for nearly three decades now, and who we hope to see continue to do so for many years to come. WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Brewster reprises her longtime Criminal Minds role as FBI Supervisory Special Agent Emily Prentiss in the brand new Paramount+ Original title Criminal Minds: Evolution, which premieres on the platform this Thursday, on November 24. The crime drama series is comprised of faces both fresh and familiar as it follows the FBI’s elite Behavior Analysis Unit (BAU) facing their biggest threat yet: a network of serial killers built up during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the world reopens after the worst of the virus, the deadly criminal network begins accumulating victims offline out in the world, forcing our ace team to hunt down the killers and get to the bottom of who is orchestrating this deadly effort and why.
In addition to Brewster, Criminal Minds: Evolution features Joe Mantegna, A. J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Adam Rodriguez, and Zach Gilford, so be sure to catch their killer work in this thrilling new series as soon as it drops this week, only on Paramount+.
WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Brewster’s professional onscreen career began in 1993 when she took on a variety of roles in sketch comedy series Strange America. Just a few years later, she was already taking her career to the next level with work in 1997 TV comedy film World on a String, 1998 drama film Let’s Talk About Sex, and beloved sitcom Friends, on which she played the recurring guest role of Kathy from 1997 to 1998. From there, she swiftly began accruing credits in TV shows like Godzilla: The Series, Love & Money, The Trouble With Normal, Huff, Two and a Half Men, Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, and American Dad!, as well as on films like 2000 adventure comedy The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, 2000 superhero comedy The Specials, 2002 comedy Now You Know, 2004 comedy-drama Eulogy, 2005 crime-comedy Man of the House, and 2006 Christmas comedy Unaccompanied Minors.
In 2006, Brewster began playing the role for which she’s best known, as Emily Prentiss on CBS police procedural crime drama series Criminal Minds, making her even more of a household name. That exposure then opened the door for roles on shows like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, King of the Hill, Modern Family, Drunk History, Community, Key & Peele, Adventure Time, Kroll Show, Grandfathered, and Family Guy, and in films like 2012 superhero animation Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, 2015 superhero animation Justice League: Gods and Monsters, 2015 comedies Uncle Nick and Welcome to Happiness, 2017 superhero animation Batman and Harley Quinn, and 2017 drama Axis.
Most recently, you may have seen Brewster in TV shows Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, DuckTales, Mom, BoJack Horseman, Hollywood, Behind the Attraction, Birdgirl, Tuca & Bertie, and How I Met Your Father, and in movies like 2018 thriller The Witch Files and 2022 drama thriller Hypochondriac.
