New Movies On Demand: ‘Don’t Worry Darling,’ ‘Barbarian,’ + More

It’s a stacked week by any standards when it comes to great new movies on VOD, but it’s worth noting that the most-talked-about movie of the year (at least in the gossip pages), Don’t Worry Darling, is out this week on demand. In addition to the Olivia Wilde-directed thriller which co-stars Florence Pugh and Harry Styles, Zach Cregger’s rental property horror Barbarian is out on VOD after a stint in theaters, and Mia Goth makes a bloody splash in Pearl, Ti West’s slasher flick set in 1918 Texas.

Goth reprises the role of Pearl, which she first played in West’s 2022 film X. Pearl, a prequel to X, is set during the turmoil of World War I, and in it, we see Pearl’s origins as homesteading daughter of German immigrants and young wife to a deployed soldier. Despite her rural upbringing, she has dreams of stardom, of making her way out of Texas where she feels stuck with her family. She’s also volatile and dangerous, and will (brutally) kill anyone who gets in her way, as we saw previously in X.

These are just a few of the titles that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now!

Don’t Worry Darling

Don’t Worry Darling has made headlines for a million reasons that have nothing to do with the film’s plot, so if you’re still actually interested in seeing what the movie is actually about, it’s finally available on VOD so you can find out. In the film, Florence Pugh stars as Alice, a 1950s housewife married to Jack (Harry Styles), who’s one of the many men working for The Victory Project, a secretive company that lures families with the promise of living in a utopian society where the wives stay at home to cook and look pretty for their husbands. When Alice starts to question the real motives behind Victory, it makes her a target, especially as she realizes the truth behind what the men are really up to.

Barbarian

By my count, this year has seen the release of three films based around an AirBnB double-booking. First there was Netflix’s The Man From Toronto, then there was the Katie Holmes romance Alone Together, and now we have Barbarian, which is 100% the worst-case double-booking scenario of them all. First of all, Tess (Georgina Campbell) realizes that the house she has rented has also been booked by a guy named Keith (Bill Skarsgard). Keith is definitely shady, but is he the one she really needs to worry about when it comes to her safety after she agrees to sleep in the house? This is a film whose marketing campaign has been built around its air of mystery, so no spoilers, but let’s just say that there are definitely some shady characters lurking around this rental property and Tess is going to have to figure out how to escape them.
