Fans Furious About Bill Murray’s Marvel Debut in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ Following Sexual Misconduct Scandal

Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne journey back into the Quantum Realm in Marvel’s new trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but not everybody wants to come along for the ride.

The third installment in the Ant-Man trilogy welcomes back Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Jonathan Majors, while adding Kathryn Newton as the older version of Cassie Lang and Bill Murray in an untitled role. The trailer opens with Scott being awarded “Employee of the Month” at a Baskin Robbins ice cream shop while wearing his Ant-Man suit and reflecting on his double life as an Avenger. But, the action quickly picks up as he journeys into a futuristic “secret universe” with Hope and Janet van Dyne, where we meet a darker version of Majors’ Kang the Conqueror (who was introduced in the Disney+ series Loki).

Fans rallied on social media gush about their favorite scenes and theories for the forthcoming film, which hits theaters on February 17, 2023, but one particular fresh face left them with a sour taste in their mouth. Given Murray’s rocky past and new controversies, people were less than thrilled to see him make his MCU debut. The Ghostbusters actor was recently exposed for his cruel behavior towards his Quick Change co-star Geena Davis and his unwanted sexual behavior towards a crew member on set of the now-suspended production Being Mortal.

Roughly an hour following the new trailer’s release, the actor’s name is trending on Twitter with over 2K tweets. One user wrote, “Worst possible time for Bill Murray to enter the MCU.”

Another said, “Bill Murray being in this isn’t the flex they thought it was 2 years ago.”

“There’s a chance that Bill Murray might finally be in trouble by the time this Ant-Man movie comes out. I mean, it feels like it should have happened a while back but this feels about as loud as the conversation has been,” wrote a third.

A fourth raised a solid point, “Really bold of Marvel to showcase Bill Murray in the Ant-Man trailer after the sexual harassment scandal he has had.” While editing Murray out of the final cut of the film may pose a financial and time constraint, leaving him out of the trailer would’ve been a quick fix. But, perhaps the studio was determined to leave the trailer unedited to ensure it was the same trailer that was screened at San Diego Comic Con in July.

Regardless, there’s only one cameo in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania that truly matters: This guy (Ruben Rabasa) from Netflix’s I Think You Should Leave.
