Woman Crush Wednesday: Get to Know ‘A Jazzman’s Blues’ Actress Solea Pfeiffer

Grab your jackets, rakes, and pumpkin spice lattes (fall’s three essentials, as we all know) because as of tomorrow, the autumn season has officially begun! That’s not the only thing we’re hyped about this week, though. After all, today is, in fact, Woman Crush Wednesday, meaning that we have plenty to celebrate when it comes to the wonderful women serving up unforgettable and incredible performances in the best new movies and shows streaming now.

This week, we’re talking about an amazing actress and singer who has already made her mark as a gifted and hard-working performing live onstage, and is now bringing that same skill and magnetism to screens around the world with her star turn in an upcoming Netflix Original film. Be sure to remember her name, because this laudable lady is going places! So without further ado, give it up for your WCW, the spectacular Solea Pfeiffer.

WHO’S THAT GAL: Solea Pfeiffer

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Pfeiffer stars as LeAnne in upcoming Netflix Original title A Jazzman’s Blues, which premieres on the platform this Friday, on September 23. This drama film delves into the epic story of a forbidden love between star-crossed Bayou (Joshua Boone) and Leanne (Pfeiffer) in post-World War II Southern USA. Leanne’s family disapproves of her budding relationship with young jazz singer Bayou and ends up breaking them apart, thereby hurtling the pair down two very different paths in life that still manage to unexpectedly converge over time. Will fate ultimately be kind to the lovers that everyone around them seems desperate to keep apart, and how does Bayou go from hopeful musician to the subject of a 1986 murder mystery? Find out in the moving and evocative Tyler Perry-written, directed, and produced film that is A Jazzman’s Blues as soon as it’s available, only on Netflix.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Pfeiffer’s professional onscreen acting career began in 2017, when she appeared as Eliza Hamilton (whom she also portrayed onstage in the first U.S. national tour of critically acclaimed musical Hamilton that same year) in an episode of HBO sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm. From there, she had guest appearances on TV shows like ScandalThe Good Fight, and Indoor Boys as well as in the 2020 “Escape from Camp Eerie” episode of interactive virtual murder mystery series Broadway Whodunit. While A Jazzman’s Blues marks her first major role in a feature film, she is no stranger to starring in big-name productions, exemplified by her stage work as Maria in a Hollywood Bowl production of West Side Story, Clara Johnson in a Chicago Civic Opera House production of The Light in the Piazza, and Eva Perón (age 20-33) in an Off-Broadway production of Evita. With this in mind, it’s clear that the talented triple-threat has plenty more success and exciting projects ahead of her, and we can’t wait to see all that she takes on and accomplishes in the years to come!

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: While we’re not sure what’s next for Pfeiffer role-wise onscreen at the moment, you can at least look forward to the chance to see her live onstage as Penny Lane in Broadway musical Almost Famous, which begins previews on October 3. If you’d like to keep up with Pfeiffer in the meantime, be sure to follow her now on Instagram, Twitter, and Spotify
