The ‘Knives Out’ Sweater is Shaking Over Kate Hudson’s ‘Glass Onion’ Wardrobe

The highly-anticipated teaser for Rian Johnson’s Knives Out sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, dropped today, and we absolutely have to talk about Kate Hudson’s wardrobe.

Fans of Johnson’s original murder mystery, which premiered in 2019, will recall the film was praised for it gorgeous, cozy fall fashion — specifically one stunning cable knit sweater that Chris Evans’ character Ransom wore, which my Decider colleague Anna Menta and I helped make famous. Costume designer Jenny Eagan was responsible for Knives Out‘s killer looks, and since she’ll be returning for Glass Onion we knew we had to be on wardrobe watch when the teaser dropped.

While we only got a minute and a half of footage, it’s clear that Glass Onion is overflowing with fashionable new suspects in Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista.

Since the film takes place on a yacht and a private Greek island, we likely won’t get any new knit sweaters; but we do spy busy patterns, bold colors, and statement hats galore. We’re excited to see the fresh fits the full film has in store, but as far as the teaser goes, Kate Hudson’s character, fashionista Birdie Jay, exudes taste every time she hits the screen.

We have no choice but to crown Hudson the early style icon of Glass Onion. Prepare to gush over all her delicious teaser threads below.

The Getaway Look

Birdie is ready for a VACAY with this look. Amazing colors, a feathery pattern, sunglasses, matching lips, and a floppy wide-brim hat? It takes a certain flair for drama to pull this look off, and our girl clearly has it.

Slaying Poolside

Orange you glad your retinas are blessed with this picturesque scene of Hudson strutting poolside in another fierce statement hat, a unique orange bikini with some serious hit and shoulder detail, a colorful robe-turned-cape, and a purse that looks like a decapitated scarecrow’s head? We sure are. She’s channeling her inner Jennifer Lopez wearing the green Versace silk chiffon and she’s getting away with it.

Party Time

This hair is everything, but we’re here for the clothes. And there’s so much to love about this busy, fun, silky, straight-up sexy pant and jacket set featuring black, white, maroon, and gold metallics. Paired with a black tank/bodysuit, gold jewelry, and a room full of people ready to party? This outfit is unstoppable.

The “Knives Out” Dress

If you’re gonna have a “knives out” moment in a Knives Out movie you better be wearing a killer fit like Hudson. This dynamite floor-length halter dress features a chest cutout and a rainbow of metallic colors, transitioning from dark blue at Hudson’s neckline to a reddish pink at her feet. The dress makes an appearance throughout the trailer (as it should) so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for different angles.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, which runs from September 8 to September 11. After that, the film will debut on Netflix on December 23, as well as a TBA limited theatrical release. So we’ll have to savor these looks until then.
