Is ‘Honk For Jesus’ Streaming on HBO Max or Netflix?

There’s a lot to make fun of when it comes to for-profit mega-churches, and the new dark comedy Honk For Jesus, Save Your Soul—streaming on Peacock this weekend—doesn’t pull any punches.

Written and directed by the twin sister filmmaking duo Adamma Ebo & Adanne Ebo, Honk For Jesus is a biting, mockumentary-style satire. Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown star as a married couple who run a Southern Baptist megachurch. While Pastor Lee-Curtis Childs (Brown) used to preach to tens of thousands, a scandal forced his church to close. But his always-loyal wife (Hall) stood by him, and together, they hope to reclaim their former glory.

Honk For Jesus is the kind of absurd satire that’s hilarious—until the movie veers into territory that isn’t very funny at all. Here’s what to know about how to watch Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul online, including when Honk for Jesus will be on Peacock.

WHERE TO WATCH HONK FOR JESUS, SAVE YOUR SOUL:

You can stream Honk For Jesus, Save Your Soul on Peacock Premium beginning on Friday, September 2. You can sign up for Peacock Premium to watch Honk For Jesus, Save Your Soul with ads for $4.99 a month, or you can sign up for Peacock Premium Plus to watch Honk For Jesus without ads for $9.99 a month. Both tiers will give you access to the movie. However, you will not be able to watch Honk For Jesus on the free version of Peacock.

While there used to be a 7-day free trial for Peacock Premium, unfortunately, the streamer has ended its free trial service. So you’ll either need to cough up the cash or get a login from a friend.

You can also catch Honk For Jesus in theaters, opening in the U.S. on the same day it’s on Peacock, September 2. Find a showing near you via Fandango.

WHAT TIME WILL HONK FOR JESUS, SAVE YOUR SOUL BE ON PEACOCK?

Based on previous Universal theatrical movie releases on Peacock, Honk For Jesus should be available to stream on Peacock Premium at 12 a.m. ET on September 2, or 9 p.m. PT on September 1. That means if you’re on the west coast, you’ll be able to watch Honk For Jesus as early as Thursday night.

IS HONK FOR JESUS STREAMING ON HBO MAX?

No. Honk For Jesus will not be on HBO Max at the same time it is in theaters, because it is not a Warner Bros. film, and because HBO Max will no longer be streaming theatrical movies in 2022. (Last year, Warner Bros. opted to simultaneously release its theatrical slate on streaming, meaning HBO Max subscribers could watch movies like Matrix Resurrections at home. This year, however, Warner Bros. theatrical movies will have a 45-day theaters-only run before moving to HBO Max.) It’s possible that Honk For Jesus will be on HBO and HBO Max someday, but it will not be any time soon.

IS HONK FOR JESUS STREAMING ON NETFLIX?

Honk For Jesus will not be on Netflix any time soon. However, the movie may eventually go to Netflix, albeit not for another 4 years. A deal between Universal and Netflix gives the streaming service access to live-action films from Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, which includes Focus Features, about four years after they open in theaters. In the case of Honk For Jesus, that means September 2026. That’s a long time to wait, so if you want to see the movie ASAP, your best bet is to go to a movie theater or watch the movie on Peacock Premium.
