Desus Nice Jokes About Showtime Firing While Guest Hosting on ‘Jimmy Kimmel,’ Says You Can Say “Whatever the F*ck You Want”

Desus Nice made his solo debut filling in as a guest host on Jimmy Kimmel Live Monday night (Aug. 15) just one month after it was announced that his show Desus & Mero was ending after four seasons. While he didn’t talk too much about it, the comedian made sure to include subtle nods to his former show, including several jokes about his firing.

Nice started his monologue by pointing out the difference between network TV and premium cable.

“It’s weird to be hosting a show on network TV because I was on Showtime for the past four years, where they pretty let you say whatever the fuck you want,” he joked before looking over to Jimmy Kimmel’s sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez and asking, “Guillermo, can I say whatever the fuck I want on ABC?”

Rodriguez then quipped, “I don’t think so but you’re not coming back tomorrow so who gives a fuck?”

During the rest of his monologue, Nice also talked about being from the Bronx, megafloods in California, and, of course, the news surrounding the things the FBI found in Donald Trump’s basement, calling the former president a “racist Jason Bourne but more orange.”

Regarding Trump wanting the FBI to return the documents to him, Nice said they belong to the U.S. government, adding, “When you get fired from the office, you don’t get to take the Xerox machine home with you. When I got fired from Showtime, they don’t let me bring home the cast of Shameless.”

Nice, otherwise known as Daniel Baker, starred in Showtime’s Desus & Mero alongside fellow podcaster and comedian The Kid Mero. The series, which lasted four seasons before the pair split and it emerged that there wouldn’t be a fifth, is a late-night comedy show.

Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights at 11:30 p.m. on ABC. Check out the full monologue above.
