Zoey Deutch is a Lying “Influencer” in ‘Not Okay’ Trailer

I learned two things from the Not Okay trailer: don’t tell people you’re in Paris when you’re not just to get more followers; and comedies were made specifically for Zoey Deutch.

Searchlight Pictures released a new trailer for the dark comedy, Not Okay, which is set to release July 29 on Hulu. The film stars Deutch as Danni Sanders, “an aimless, aspiring writer with no friends, no romantic prospects and — worst of all — no followers,” according to a press release. Sounds relatable, right? Just kidding — kind of.

In hopes of boosting her social media clout, Danni fakes a trip to Paris via her Instagram. However, when tragedy strikes the city, she “returns” as a hero, scoring the “man of her dreams,” Colin, played by The Maze Runner star Dylan O’Brien, as well as a friendship with trauma survivor and societal change advocate, Rowan, played by Mia Isaac.

Although this lie gives Danni the following and influencer status she wanted from the start, the internet’s love for “cancellation” is inevitably just around the corner.

This film won’t be Deutch’s first time working with O’Brien as she worked opposite the Teen Wolf actor in the 2022 crime drama The Outfit

Not Okay also stars Seven Seconds actress Nadia Alexander as Harper, Deadpool actor Karan Soni as Kevin, and Matilda star Embeth Davidtz as Judith.

It will further mark Deutch’s second film with Searchlight Pictures as it was announced last January that the company acquired the rights to The Hound, which is set to star the Set it Up actress. Most recently, she starred in the second season of Netflix’s The Politician and in the post-apocalyptic film Zombieland: Double Tap.
