Netflix just announced that it’s going to be a cruel (cruel) summer because we’re going to have to wait a few more months until the fifth season of Cobra Kai premieres on the platform. During Thursday night’s Cobra Kai: Live & Bad Ass event, the streamer not only gave us our first look at the next chapter of the beloved franchise (embedded above), but they also announced that Cobra Kai Season 5 will officially premiere on Friday, September 9, 2022.

It’s a classic glass half full/half empty situation. An optimist will argue that it’s better than waiting until the end of the year (Seasons 3 and 4 debuted on January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021, respectively), while a pessimist will assert that being forced to wait until the end of the summer is more grueling than a Johnny Lawrence cement truck workout.

The recently released logline for the new season states that “following the shocking results of the All Valley Tournament, Terry Silver is expanding the Cobra Kai empire and trying to make his ‘No Mercy’ style of karate the only game in town. With Kreese behind bars and Johnny Lawrence setting karate aside to focus on repairing the damage he’s caused, Daniel LaRusso must call on an old friend for help.”

The new Season 5 teaser gives us a glimpse of a delicious Chozen vs. Terry Silver showdown, highlights Cobra Kai’s newfound dominance, previews the probable Tory redemption arc, and confirms that Robby will be joining Johnny on his trip to Mexico to find Miguel.

September can’t arrive soon enough. No mercy!

The fifth season of Cobra Kai premieres Friday, September 9, 2022 on Netflix.
