If you’ve felt like something’s been missing in The Flight Attendant Season 2, that’s all about to change. “Blue Sincerely Reunion” contains a cameo that’s sure to make Season 1’s fans gasp. Spoilers ahead.

“We live in a world that has Miranda [Michelle Gomez] in it. She can always pop up,” series developer and executive producer Steve Yockey told Decider. “We were so happy to have Michelle back.”

Episode 3 and 4 sees Cassie (Kayley Cuoco) at her most avoidant. After witnessing a woman who looked like her committing a murder, Cassie ignores the mounting dread slowly consuming her and her promise to the FBI to stay in the U.S. Instead, she focuses on one thing: Megan (Rosie Perez). The Long Island native ended last season on the run after selling U.S. intelligence to the North Korean government. When Megan reaches out for help, Cassie drops her murderous concerns to join her in Iceland.

As well intentioned as Cassie and Megan’s reunion is, it’s also disastrous. It turns out that Megan wanted Cassie to go to New York, not Iceland. Even worse, Cassie’s surprise entrance forces Megan to kill the North Korean spy stalking her before she’s ready to do the job. Right when it looks like Megan’s plan is going to fail, Miranda swoops in with her trusty knife and saves the day.

“She just brings so much color, and she’s finally in a season where her character makes sense. Like in Season 1, she was fantastic, but she was like the spy amongst normal people,” Yockey explained. “Now she’s hanging out with Megan, who’s a fugitive, and Cassie, who’s working with the CIA. Everyone’s kind of comes up to her hijinks level.”

Also back this season is Cecilia (Briana Cuoco), Miranda’s very competent but unpredictable assistant. Instead of handling Miranda’s assassination schedule, Cecilia is now working as Miranda’s second-in-command as she runs her very own crime syndicate. But just because she’s been promoted, that doesn’t mean she’s any kinder to her boss.

Sadly, Miranda ends the episode by swearing off her adventures with Cassie and vowing to return to her newly purchased olive farm. Getting shot twice in the same leg will do that to you. But as Yockey told Decider, Miranda is a character who exists in this world. There’s always a chance for another “Miranda ex machina” in this wild show’s future.

New episodes of The Flight Attendant premiere on HBO Max Thursdays.
