Frank Langella Fired from Netflix’s ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’ After Sexual Harassment Report

Frank Langella, known for his work in Frost/Nixon and The Trial Of the Chicago 7, will no longer be starring in Netflix’s upcoming horror series, The Fall of the House of Usher. Langella was fired from the production following a misconduct investigation. According to Deadline, the report determined that Langella had been involved in unacceptable behavior on set.

The investigation was launched after Langella was accused of sexual harassment. Earlier this week, TMZ reported that the 84-year-old actor made an inappropriate and sexual joke while on set. He also reportedly touched the leg of a female costar while saying something along the lines of “Did you like that?” Sources later confirmed to Deadline that those incidents happened.

At the time of Langella’s firing, The Fall of the House of Usher was halfway through production. His former role of Roderick Usher will be recast, and the series will reshoot his scenes. Until then, the production will focus on filming scenes that do not include the character. This will continue until a new Roderick is cast. Netflix has declined to comment, and representative for Langella could not be reached for comment.

Langella’s role will be a hard one to replace. Roderick Usher stands as the patriarch of Mike Flanagan’s eight-episode adaptation. Based on the Edgar Allen Poe short story of the same name, The Fall of the House of Usher follows an elderly man who grapples with the sorrow and terror of being the last of his family. The Netflix series will also star Carla Gugino, Mary McDonnell, Carl Lumbly, and Mark Hamill.
