Will There Be a How I Met Your Father Season 2?

Yes, and you better believe that it will be legend — wait for it — dary. In February, Hulu announced that it had renewed the comedy for a second season. But this new installment will look more like its predecessor. Instead of 10 episodes, Season 2 will have 20.

“Isaac [Aptaker] and Elizabeth [Berger]’s inspired vision for How I Met Your Father has proven to be true appointment viewing that fans cannot get enough of week to week,” Jordan Helman, head of scripted content for Hulu Originals, said at the time of the announcement. “The lives of these characters, as portrayed by the immensely talented cast led by Hilary Duff, are just starting to unfold and we’re thrilled to bring more of this group’s journey to our viewers with a supersized second season.”

When Will How I Met Your Father Season 2 Premiere?

Now that this How I Met Your Mother successor is up and running, it shouldn’t take too long before we get new episodes. Principal photography began in August of 2021, and the first episode premiered in January of 2022. Based on this timeline, it took about six months to make the first season of How I Met Your Father. Assuming that Season 2 will need more time to write scripts, we can likely expect it to premiere in 2023.

How Did How I Met Your Father Season 1 End? What Could Happen in Season 2?

Ready for some spoilers? Because they’re coming at you.

It looked like Sophie (Hilary Duff) and Jesse (Chris Lowell) were destined to be a couple at the end of Season 1. But after they slept together, things got weird. While he was asleep, Jesse professed his love to Sophie, which terrified her. In the ensuing argument, Jesse revealed that he turned down his dream of going on tour with his ex Meredith (Leighton Meester) so that he could try things with Sophie. Our girl may be a hopeless romantic, but that was a step too far. Sophie told Jesse that he should have gone on tour with Meredith, a move that ended with Jesse reuniting with his ex.

That sucked, but you know what didn’t? What happened at Sophie’s art show. As older Sophie (Kim Cattrall) revealed, The Captain (Kyle MacLachlan) from How I Met Your Mother went through a tumultuous divorce that led to his ex-wife seizing all of his boats. That included a boat off the coast of Australia that was doing research into coral reefs. Ladies and gentlemen, marine biologist and perfect first date Ian (Daniel Augustin) is officially back on the table. In Season 1’s final moments, Ian locks eyes with Sophie at her art show, and sparks fly.

But what about the rest of the crew? Realizing that they want two drastically different things out of life, Valentina (Francia Raisa) and Charlie (Tom Ainsley) quietly broke up. Meanwhile, Sid (Suraj Sharma) and his long distance girlfriend Hannah (Ashley Reyes) became so frustrated with wedding planning that they got hitched. Even Ellen (Tien Tran) got some romantic action. After blowing things with the girl of her dreams, Ellen accidentally rescued her cat. That altruistic act earned her a second chance. When one relationship dies another blossoms.
