Everyone’s favorite demigods are officially headed to Disney+. Today, the streamer gave a series order to Percy Jackson and the Olympians, an adaptation of Rick Riordan‘s beloved book series of the same name.

“I am thrilled to tell you that Percy Jackson and the Olympians is really, truly, and for sure coming to your screens,” Riordan said in a video announcing the news.

News of a Disney+ adaptation first broke back in May 2020, so fans will be happy to know that they’re now one step closer to seeing it onscreen. Riordan and Jon Steinberg will write the pilot with James Bobin directing.

The Percy Jackson series centers on half-human, half-Greek god tween Percy Jackson (aka a demigod), who uncovers his true identity and is tasked with restoring order to Olympus. Details about casting and a premiere date are still under wraps.

Although the first two Percy Jackson books were previously adapted into Logan Lerman-led films (2010’s Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief and 2013’s Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters), they’ve been criticized (even by Riordan!) for not capturing the spirit and scope of the books. In a statement, Disney+ reassured fans that the show will be “an epic adventure series based on — and closely aligned with — Disney Hyperion’s book series.”

“With Rick Riordan, Jon Steinberg, and Dan Shotz leading our creative team, we’re deep into creating a compelling TV series worthy of the heroic mythological characters that millions of Percy Jackson readers know are well-worth caring about, and we’re eager to invite Disney+ audiences into stories that are true to the blockbuster franchise and full of anticipation, humor, surprise, and mystery,” Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Telvision, said in a statement provided to Decider.

Steinberg, Bobin, and Riordan serve as executive producers alongside Rebecca Riordan, Bert Salke, Monica Owusu-Breen, Jim Rowe, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, and D.J. Goldberg.
