‘Eternals’ Will Stream on Disney+ In January

If you missed Eternals in theaters or are still confused about why the universe’s most powerful beings just let Thanos do his thing, good news! Disney+ has announced that Chloé Zhao‘s 2021 Marvel film will be available to stream at no additional cost starting January 12.

Eternals follows a group of cosmic heroes who have protected the Earth since the dawn of man — again, their success rate is up for debate! When long-lost monsters called Deviants return, the estranged Eternals are forced to reunite in order to defend humanity once again.

The stacked ensemble cast includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, and Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, with Salma Hayek as Ajak and Angelina Jolie as Thena.

Eternals joins 13 other Marvel Cinematic Universe films streaming in IMAX Enhanced on Disney+, a feature allows viewers to watch select films in an expanded aspect ratio.

The film’s arrival on Disney+ comes 69 days after its November 5 theatrical release date. In comparison, Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings arrived on the streamer 71 days after its September 3 theatrical release.

The House of Mouse has been pivoting away Disney+ day-and-date release strategies in recent months, particularly after the company’s legal dispute with Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson. The Marvel actress filed a suit against Marvel back in July, arguing that Disney’s simultaneous streaming release of Black Widow to Disney+ Premier Access was a breach of her contract and sacrificed the film’s box office potential. The studio denied these claims, and the lawsuit was eventually resolved in early October.

Hopefully, Eternals‘ relatively speedy arrival on Disney+ signifies that things are running a bit more smoothly behind the scenes. At least there are no Deviants to worry about in Hollywood!
