Mark Hamill and Carla Gugino Will Star in Netflix’s ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’

Ready for some timeless creepiness? Mike Flanagan sure is. Today, the Midnight Mass and Haunting of Hill House creator announced the first round of leads for his upcoming Netflix original, The Fall of the House of Usher. And before you ask, yes, obviously, Carla Gugino is on board.

According to Flanagan, The Fall of the House of Usher will have the largest ensemble cast in the history of Intrepid Pictures. That’s saying a lot since ensemble projects are kind of Flanagan’s favorite thing. Up first is Frost/Nixon and The Trial of the Chicago 7 star Frank Langella, who will play Roderick Usher, the “towering patriarch of the Usher dynasty.” Next up is Battlestar Galactica‘s Mary McDonnell, who will play Roderick’s twin sister Madeline Usher. Playing Edgar Allen Poe’s legendary detective C. Auguste Dupin will be Carl Lumbly, who recently starred in Doctor Sleep as well as Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

As mentioned before, Gugino will also be joining the cast in a currently unknown role. But we’ve saved the most exciting cast member for last. Living legend himself Mark Hamill will be “playing a character surprisingly at home in the shadows.” We have no idea what that means, but if it requires Hamill using his Joker voice, we’re extra excited.

Flanagan and Trevor Macy’s The Fall of the House of Usher was first announced in October. The eight-episode miniseries will give some of the most iconic works of Edgar Allen Poe a modern twist. In a tweet describing the series, Flanagan called it an “epic tale of greed, horror, and tragedy.” We already have goosebumps.

Flanagan will serve as the series’ creator and direct four episodes. Additionally, Michael Fimognari (To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, To All the Boys: Always and Forever) will direct the remaining four. Fimognari and Emmy Grinwis (Snowfall, Limetown) are also set to executive produce. You can be sure that we’ll be keeping an eye on this spooky project.
