If you thought Marvel was done franchising, well, you couldn’t be more wrong. Marvel movies are forever, or should I say… eternal.
Yes, that’s right, Marvel’s Eternals is finally opening in theaters this weekend, after a year-long delay thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao, whose 2020 drama Nomadland took home the Academy Award for Best Picture last year, Eternals promises to be a different kind of superhero film. While reviews from critics have been mixed, the allure of a jacked Kumail Nanjiani is sure to get audiences to the theaters nonetheless.
But perhaps some would rather view those muscles from the comfort of their couch. Sadly, Eternals will release in theaters only—but read on to find out when you can expect Eternals to be on digital and Disney+.
WHERE TO WATCH ETERNALS:
For now, the only place to watch Eternals is in a movie theater. It is not available on streaming. You can find a showtime at a movie theater near you here.
WHEN WILL ETERNALS BE STREAMING?
Though an official digital release date has not been announced, we can guess that Eternals will be available to buy and rent on digital platforms, as well as streaming on Disney+, after 45 days in theaters.
Disney has said that Eternals will have a 45-day theatrical run in theaters, just like the last Marvel movie from Disney, Shang-Chi. That said, it’s very possible you might have to wait a little longer than 45 days to catch Eternals on streaming.
Shang-Chi opened in theaters on September 3, and is headed to both digital and free on Disney+ on November 12, about 10 weeks in theaters. If Eternals follows a similar pattern, you will have to wait until January 2022—after the holidays—to watch Eternals on streaming.
WILL ETERNALS BE ON HBO MAX?
No. Eternals is a Disney movie and not a Warner Bros. movie, and therefore will not be on HBO Max at the same time it is in theaters. In 2021, HBO Max—which is owned by Warner Media—has been releasing Warner Bros. movies like Dune on the streaming service at the same time those movies were released in theaters. However, that will not be the case with Eternals.
IS ETERNALS ON NETFLIX?
No. Eternals is not streaming on Netflix and likely will never be streaming on Netflix, due to the fact that it will be streaming on Disney+ after its theatrical run. Sorry!
