Michelle Obama Will Guest-Star in ‘Black-ish’s Final Season

Michelle Obama is bidding hello — and farewell — to Black-ish. The former First Lady will guest star on the ABC comedy’s upcoming final season, as confirmed by the show’s official social media pages. She’ll play herself, although no further details have been revealed. “#blackish is going all out for the final season! We are honored to have trailblazer @MichelleObama join us as an upcoming guest star,” the Twitter announcement read.

“I’ve long been a fan of Black-ish‘s wit and all-around brilliance, and it was such a thrill to join in for an episode,” Obama wrote on her own social media pages. “I can’t wait for you all to see it!”

This isn’t Obama’s first stop on network TV. During her husband Barack Obama’s presidency, she guest appeared as herself on Parks and Recreation‘s Season 6 finale. Other political figures have appeared on Black-ish in the past, including Stacey Abrams, former Obama advisor David Axelrod, and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.

ABC renewed Black-ish for an eighth and final season in May. The final installment is set to premiere in 2022.

Michelle and Barack Obama have an overall deal at Netflix via their production company, Higher Ground Productions. Their productions include films like Fatherhood and Worth, documentaries like American Factory and Crip Camp, and kids’ shows like Ada Twist, Scientist, and We the People.
