For fans of The Sopranos, there will never be enough content. Even after watching The Many Saints of Newarkthe Sopranos prequel film that is now playing in theaters and streaming on HBO Max—fans may be craving more.

After all, while this prequel movie does follow a young Tony Soprano growing up in the 70s, the movie is not really about Tony Soprano—it’s about Tony’s uncle, Dickie Moltisanti (Alessandro Nivola), and his various crime dealings, rivals, and infidelities. But even if you’re disappointed you didn’t get to see more of Michael Gandolfini, the son of the late James Gandolfini, playing the role his father made so famous, the good news is that means there’s plenty more story to tell.

And the even better news is that Sopranos creator David Chase—who co-wrote The Many Saints of Newark script with Lawrence Konner—has indicated that he would be open to writing another film. Here’s what we know about a possible Many Saints of Newark sequel.

WILL THERE BE A MANY SAINTS OF NEWARK 2?

There are no definite plans for a Many Saints of Newark sequel at this time. However, in an interview with Deadline, Chase said he would be interested in writing another prequel film that would follow the events of The Many Saints of Newark, if he were able to write the script with Terry Winter, a former writer and producer on The Sopranos.

Chase said the movie would be “a sequel to this movie you saw. In other words, what happens after this movie’s over, before the TV show starts.” He went on to say the story would follow “Tony in his 20s. That would be interesting to do, and there’s a lot of stories that exist already because of the mythology, and working with Terry would be great. He and I in that world again, I think we’d have a good time. I wouldn’t do it on my own, and I would not do it with anybody else. If Warners wanted it, they own it, they can do whatever they want.”

It’s not a definite yes, but it sounds like Chase has ideas. Come on Warner Bros.—do the right thing!
