Jason Sudeikis Pokes Fun at Lorne Michaels During ‘Ted Lasso’ Acceptance Speech

Even without the mustache, Jason Sudeikis is still cracking jokes at tonight’s Emmy Awards. When the actor won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance as Ted Lasso in Apple TV+‘s Ted Lasso, naturally, he took a dig at former boss Lorne Michaels. Michaels, who snagged another win for Saturday Night Live, was nowhere to be found as Sudeikis took the stage and began his speech.

“I would say that this show is about family, this show is about mentors and teachers, this show is about teammates,” Sudeikis began. “I wouldn’t be here without those three things in my life.”

After shouting out some of his family members, Sudeikis switched to some of his favorite mentors — including Michaels, who helped him on SNL for around a decade. But the TV icon wasn’t in his seat, which led Sudeikis to take a rather nasty turn with his speech.

“I want to thank Lorne, who went to go take a dump now. Perfect,” Sudeikis said, pausing for an uproar of laughter.

And the jokes didn’t end there. After that, Sudeikis suggested that Michaels would have to watch his big win from the comfort of his own home.

“He’s going to get home, he’s going to watch it, he loves watching the Emmys at home. It’s fine. It’s fine,” Sudeikis said with a smile. “Which home is the big question?”

Sudeikis has been serving us some real good times at awards shows as he picks up major wins for his turn in Ted Lasso. Back in February, he accepted the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy — in a tie-dye hoodie. Apparently, that  event wasn’t worth a suit and tie.

But Sudeikis rocked it in a stunning blue corduroy suit tonight, a shake-up from his last major awards appearance. And yet, that didn’t stop him from stealing the show.
