Woman Crush Wednesday: Get a Dose of ‘Doogie Kameāloha, M.D.’ Star Peyton Elizabeth Lee

As the kids go back to school and we begin bidding summer goodbye, it’s totally natural to be feeling a little blue. Luckily, we at Decider are here to offer you a pick-me-up in the form of a delightful new Woman Crush Wednesday. This week, we’re celebrating an amazing young up-and-coming actress who already has some impressive titles to her name, with even more to come in the future (and we couldn’t be more excited to see what she does next). So, without further ado, give it up for your latest WCW, the phenomenal Peyton Elizabeth Lee!

WHO’S THAT GAL: Peyton Elizabeth Lee

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Lee stars as the titular Lahela “Doogie” Kameāloha in the upcoming Disney+ Original series Doogie Kameāloha, M.D., which premieres on the platform today, September 8th. This family medical drama is based on the 1989 to 1993 ABC medical drama Doogie Howser, M.D., and similarly follows a teenaged genius attempting to balance high school life and a burgeoning medical career. The show revolves around 16 year-old wunderkind Lahela and the incredible friends, family, and colleagues who support and surround her over the course of 10 half hour-long episodes, and has a great cast that also includes Kathleen Rose Perkins, Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, Jason Scott Lee, Ronny Chieng, Alex Aiono, Mapuana Makia, and Matthew Sato. Make sure to do yourselves a favor by checking out Lee and the rest of the cast’s fantastic work in Doogie Kameāloha, M.D. ASAP, only on Disney+.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Although she is only 17 years-old, Lee has already built up an impressive career and reputation as an actress over the past couple of years. Her professional onscreen career began in 2015 with a one-episode appearance as Violet in ABC political thriller series Scandal. From there, Lee appeared in three episodes of Showtime comedy-drama series Shameless in 2016 before landing herself the titular starring role in Disney Channel family comedy-drama series Andi Mack, which made history for being the first show on the channel to feature an openly gay main character (Andi’s best friend Cyrus, portrayed by Joshua Rush), as well as for its willingness to tackle other topics not often depicted in a kids or teen show, like gun safety, peer pressure, learning disabilities, and multiculturalism through the lens of the Asian-American experience.

In the years since the 2017 to 2019 run of Andi Mack, Lee has had a recurring role in animated Disney coming-of-age adventure series The Lion Guard, a guest appearance in an episode of ABC crime-drama series Stumptown, and starred as Princess Sam in 2020 sci-fi superhero action film Secret Society of Second-Born Royals. With all of these awesome performances under her belt already, we have no doubt that Lee will put out many more in the years to come, and we can’t wait to see all that she accomplishes throughout the rest of her acting career!

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: While we aren’t sure what’s next for Lee role-wise at the moment, you can at least stay up-to-date with the latest from the actress by following her on Twitter and Instagram. Never miss a moment from our wonderful WCW, Peyton Elizabeth Lee!
