Woman Crush Wednesday
Kids are returning to school, adults are reluctantly leaving their sunny and relaxing vacations behind, and Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back in season. Ah, yes, it truly is the end of the month and nearly time for fall. But before we jump into September, we’re coming at you with the last Woman Crush Wednesday of August. We’re finishing the month strong by celebrating a wonderful and multi-talented woman who can act, sing, AND dance (ooo, triple threat!), and who has lit up stages and screens alike over the past 10+ years of her professional acting career. So, without further ado, give it up for your WCW, the terrific Heléne Yorke!
WHO’S THAT GAL: Heléne Yorke
WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Yorke is back as Brooke Dubek in the long-awaited second season of comedy The Other Two, which has found a new home on HBO Max, and premieres on the platform this Thursday, August 26th. The show’s sophomore season sees all of its central characters in very different places from where they first began this hilarious tale, as titular “other two” siblings Cary (Drew Tarver) and Brooke (Yorke) Dubek are now out of the shadow of their internet-famous 13 year-old brother Chase (Case Walker) and are forging their own paths in their respective fields.
Cary is having more success than ever before in his acting, and Brooke is gaining self-confidence and finding more of the direction in life that she had been searching for throughout Season 1. Even the siblings’ mother, Pat (Molly Shannon) seems to be crushing it as a successful daytime talk show host. But, of course, not everything is smooth sailing, and there is plenty of delightful drama and laugh-out-loud comedy coming our way throughout the entire six-episode second season.
The show’s sophomore season is already receiving positive press and reviews from publications like Entertainment Weekly, The AV Club, us here at Decider, and more, so clearly the comedy magic that the show produced in its first season is still very much alive and well. The series is bolstered by the return of stars Yorke, Tarver, Shannon, Walker, Ken Marino, and Wanda Sykes, and new characters played by Bowen Yang, Zosia Mamet, Jordana Brewster, and more, so make sure to see the cast and crew’s incredible work by catching Season 2 of The Other Two as soon as it drops, only on HBO Max.
WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Yorke’s professional onscreen career began with a one-episode appearance in FX comedy-drama Louie in 2010. Over the next few years, she continued to act in television shows like Wiener & Wiener, A Gifted Man, 30 Rock, and I Just Want My Pants Back before making her feature film debut in 2012 romantic-comedy All Wifed Out. From there, the actress began racking up roles in shows like High Maintenance, Robot Chicken, BoJack Horseman, American Dad!, and Person of Interest, as well as in films like 2014 comedy Are You Joking? and 2015 fantasy comedy The Night Before.
However, it was her recurring role as Jane Martin from 2013 to 2015 in Showtime period drama Masters of Sex which helped to lift Yorke’s career to brand new heights. Both during and shortly after her time on the show, she also had recurring work in shows Quantico, Family Guy, Graves, and The Good Fight, as well as smaller guest roles in shows like Elementary and Future Man. Most recently, Yorke played Amanda in 10 episodes of The CW musical comedy-drama Katy Keene last year, and also appeared as Leah in an episode of Showtime Original late-night talk show Ziwe this year in June. With this impressive and ever-growing filmography under her belt already, we have no doubt that Yorke is an amazing actress, and we can’t wait to see all that she will continue to accomplish in the years to come.
