We have some good news, and we have some bad news.

Last week, the fourth season of Atypical premiered on Netflix! Created by Robia Rashid and debuting on the streamer back in August of 2017, the popular dramedy centers on Sam (Keir Gilchrist), a young adult on the autism spectrum who decides it’s time to find a girlfriend. The series earned rave reviews and currently boasts an 87% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes.

But now for the bad news. Fans who already devoured all ten Season 4 episodes of Atypical are wondering about the show’s future. Is this the last season of Atypical? Will there be a Season 5 of Atypical? Here’s everything you need to know.

WHEN DOES ATYPICAL SEASON 4 ARRIVE ON NETFLIX?

All ten Season 4 episodes of Atypical are now streaming on Netflix.

IS THIS THE LAST SEASON OF ATYPICAL?

Yep. Back in February of 2020, Netflix renewed Atypical for a fourth and final season.

WILL THERE BE A SEASON 5 OF ATYPICAL ON NETFLIX?

Nope. Unfortunately, the series won’t return for a fifth season. On the bright side, series creator Robia Rashid knew that Season 4 would be the final installment of the series, so the show was able to craft the final season (and very moving final scene) accordingly.

The final scene of the series shows Sam, who’s always been obsessed with penguins, traveling to Antarctica with his dad. Showrunner Robia Rashid recently revealed to TVLine that the ending was originally pitched as the Season 2 finale.

“We saved it, so we knew all along that that was going to be the ending,” Rashid told TVLine. “We didn’t plan on having Doug (Michael Rapaport) going with him, but that ends up feeling really full circle in terms of where Doug and Sam started out.”

All four seasons of Atypical are available to stream on Netflix.
