Will There Be a ‘Gunpowder Milkshake 2’? What We Know About A Sequel to Karen Gillan’s Netflix Thriller

Gunpowder Milkshake on Netflix delivers all the bloody and physically impossible violence your heart could desire. It’s a highly stylized action thriller starring Karen Gillan, Lena Headey, Carla Gugino, Michelle Yeoh, and Angela Bassett as ruthless assassins; Paul Giamatti as a morally ambiguous crime lord; and Chloe Coleman as the innocent 8-year-old girl caught in the middle.
If you’ve finished watching the movie, you’ll know that the Gunpowder Milkshake ending sets things up for a sequel. Coleman’s character, the 8-year-old Emily (sorry, 8 and three quarters), asks Gillan’s character, Sam, who the men were that made the decision to kill Emily’s father. Sam replies that it was The Firm, a group of men “who think they can get away with anything.”

“But they won’t, right?” asks Emily.

“No, they won’t,” Sam replies. “Not anymore”
Then—after paying a quick visit to Paul Giamatti to intimidate him—Sam, Emily, Lena Headey, Michelle Yeoh, and Angela Bassett ride into the sunset in their Volkswagen bus. It’s a pretty clear setup for a sequel.
So is there a Gunpowder Milkshake 2 in the works?

WILL THERE BE A GUNPOWDER MILKSHAKE 2?

Good news: Gunpowder Milkshake 2 is already in development, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter last week. StudioCanal, one of the production companies behind the movie, announced plans for a sequel to Gunpowder Milkshake at the Cannes Film Festival, along with a slew of other projects, including the third Paddington film and a sequel to Cold Pursuit.

That said, there are very few other details on Gunpowder Milkshake 2 at this point. No cast members, directors, or writers have publicly signed on, even though the Gunpowder Milkshake ending suggests that the main cast will return. Before you get your hopes too high, you should know that just because a movie is “in development” doesn’t necessarily mean it will happen.
The cast and director Navot Papushado have remained tight-lipped about any sequel details so far. In an interview with The Mary Sue, Carla Gugino said, “There have been those conversations!” when asked if she’d heard talk of the sequel. She continued, “Who knows what will come of all of it … I think it would be so fun because we just touched on these characters, and there’s so much more to explore with them. I think I’m always a fan of leaving people wanting more, which is good.”
But hopefully, if the movie does well for Netflix, we can someday see Gunpowder Milkshake 2 in the future.
