Quibi Shocks By Scoring 8 Emmy Noms, Despite Going Out Of Business And Losing Almost $1 Billion

Quibi, the short-form streaming service that shuttered last year after just six months of operation, earned eight posthumous Emmy Award nominations today. Although the platform had little success in the streaming market, against all odds, Jeffrey Katzenberg‘s defunct app now has a shot at securing honors — and two years in a row, at that.

Nearly all eight of Quibi’s nominations were in acting categories, with only one outlier. The nominations were only bestowed upon three separate shows: Kevin Hart’s action-comedy Die Hart, the comedy-mystery series Mapleworth Murders, and the platform’s reboot of Reno 911! Dominating the short form acting categories (the streamer has nabbed nearly every slot in the Outstanding Actor category and over half of Outstanding Actress), there’s a pretty solid chance that they swipe some statues at the 73rd Emmy Awards.

Although the news may sound surprising, Quibi also raked in 10 nominations at last year’s Emmy Awards as well. The streamer won two honors, both for the program’s Antoine Fuqua-produced drama #FreeRayshawn: Laurence Fishburne won the award for Outstanding Actor in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series, and Jasmine Cephas Jones won Outstanding Actress in the same category.

The app may have vanished from the face of the earth, but that doesn’t mean Quibi’s programs have gone missing with it. Most of Quibi’s content is now streaming on The Roku Channel, so be sure to catch up before this year’s Emmy Awards celebration on September 19.
