Black Widow (2021)

No matter your opinion on the Black Widow movie—now playing in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access—I think we can all agree that Florence Pugh stole the show.

As Yelena Belova, the long-lost sister of Scarlett Johansson’s character Natasha Romanoff, Pugh quickly became a fan favorite. Sporting a thick Russian accent, Pugh delivers too many laugh-out-loud jokes to count, from mocking Natasha for her “superhero pose” to bragging about her very cool, very pocketed vest.

The good news for fans who are craving more Yelena content is that Pugh is already set to reprise her role in the upcoming Disney+ series, Hawkeye, starring Jeremey Renner. (And if you stayed until the end and caught the Black Widow post-credits scene, you already have a pretty good idea of how Yelena will fit into that series, which is set to start streaming later this year.)

But what about the people who are craving more Florence Pugh content right the heck now? Thankfully, despite the fact that the English actor is only 25 years old, Pugh already has an impressive resume of roles. That includes an Oscar-nominated role in Greta Gerwig’s celebrated adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s novel Little Women; an unforgettable and much-memed performance in Ari Aster’s sunny yet disturbing horror movie Midsommar; and her award-winning, breakout performance in the indie British drama Lady Macbeth.

The point is, there are plenty of Florence Pugh movies that showcase her talent in a wide range of genres. And, for your convenience, they are all available to stream online in one way or another. Read on for a list of seven Florence Pugh movies to check out if you couldn’t get enough of her in Marvel’s Black Widow.

If you’re a Yelena stan and you haven’t yet seen Florence Pugh’s take on Amy March, run, don’t walk, to watch her in Greta Gerwig’s 2019 adaptation of Little WomenOver the years, many actors have stepped into the shoes of the youngest March sister from Louisa May Alcott’s classic 1868 novel. But none have so convincingly presented the argument that Amy is good, actually. Pugh’s gravitas and self-assured nature take Amy from “annoying little brat” to “sympathetic victim of the patriarchy,” and it’s brilliant. It’s no wonder Pugh snagged an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for that one.

'Midsommar' (2018)

This sunny horror film from Ari Aster is both deeply disturbing and one of Pugh’s most iconic performances. Fair warning that this movie features some uncomfortable and traumatic scenes involving grief, suicide, sexual assault, and gore. But if you’re able to handle that, then you’ll be rewarded with a truly brilliant showcase of Pugh’s talent, who stars as Dani Ardor, a psychology student who is traumatized after losing her entire family who tags along with her boyfriend and his friends for a trip to Sweden for a midsummer celebration at a commune. You’ll watch Pugh expertly evolve from a meek girlfriend to a woman of incredible power, and it’s truly transformative.

The role that first alerted many to the fact that Florence Pugh was something special was her powerhouse performance in Lady Macbeth. This 2016 British drama film—loosely based on the novella Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District by Nikolai Leskov—stars Pugh as a young, 19th-century woman named Katherine, who is trapped in a loveless marriage to an older man and resorts to increasingly brutal coping mechanisms. Pugh’s performance was universally praised by critics, and while you won’t find much of the comedy she brings to Yelena in Black Widow, you will find a hardened ruthlessness that will send a chill down your spine; in a good way.

If you’re craving even more of Florence Pugh’s interpretation of the Bard, you can see her act alongside legends like Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson in this BBC television film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s King Lear. Pugh stars as the crucial character of Cordelia, the daughter of King Lear (played by Sir Anthony Hopkins) who refused her share of his inheritance. If you want to see some pure, classical, skilled acting from Pugh, this critically-acclaimed take on a classic is the way to go. And good news—it’s streaming free on Amazon Prime!

'The Falling' (2014)

If you want to make like Hilary Duff and go back, back to the beginning, you can watch Florence Pugh’s professional acting debut in the 2014 film The Falling, which she landed she was just 18 years old and still in school. The film, an eerie drama, stars Pugh and Game of Thrones‘s Maisie Williams as two best friends at an English all-girls school in 1969. While the film is more Williams than Pugh’s, her performance was nonetheless praised, and for true Pugh fans, it’s worth it to see that adorably talented babyface.

'Outlaw King' (2018)

Look, is the Netflix movie where Chris Pine plays the 14th-century Scottish King Robert the Bruce the best movie? No. But it does feature Florence Pugh as a gorgeous redhead, and that’s all that really matters. As Robert Bruce’s wife, Elizabeth de Burgh, Pugh gets to be the powerful lady who put men in their place at a time when women putting men in their place wasn’t exactly accepted behavior. And while this isn’t the only reason why we love her, she does also get a very steamy scene with Chris Pine.

'Fighting with My Family' (2019)

Enough of period dramas, am I right? If you loved Pugh’s impeccable comedic timing in Black Widow, you simply must watch Fighting with My Family, a feel-good sports comedy that stars Pugh as a pro-wrestler. Based on the true story of Saraya “Paige” Bevis, a professional wrestler with the WWE, this is your chance to see a whole new side of Pugh: the cool goth tomboy who’s not like the other girls. You’ll even get to see her act in a few scenes with real-life former wrestler, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The whole thing is more than a little cheesy, but Pugh is exactly the kind of skilled actor who can pull cheesy off.
