Eurovision Winners Måneskin Found Not Guilty of On-Site Drug Use

After a suspect video of Måneskin, the winners of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, went viral, the band has been cleared of allegations that they were taking drugs in the green room. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) investigated the incident after a clip of the Italian band was widely shared on social media.

In the video, lead singer Damiano David can be seen lowering and lifting his head from a table as the group celebrated their win. Viewers were quick to call David out for snorting cocaine on a live broadcast.

The EBU announced today that there was no foul play after they “conducted a thorough review of facts, including checking all available footage.” Måneskin also submitted a voluntary drug test, which came back negative.

“No drug use took place in the Green Room and we consider the matter closed,” the EBU said. “We are alarmed that inaccurate speculation leading to fake news has overshadowed the spirit and the outcome of the event and unfairly affected the band.”

Before the EBU’s statement, the frontman had denied all of the allegations, explaining that guitarist Thomas Raggi had just broken a glass nearby. “I don’t use drugs,” David told reporters “Please guys, do not say that. Don’t say that, really. No cocaine, please, do not say that.”

The EBU confirmed that the broken glass was found after an onsite check, announcing the investigation that concluded today.

“The band, their management and head of delegation have informed us that no drugs were present in the Green Room and explained that a glass was broken at their table and it was being cleared by the singer,” their statement read. “The EBU can confirm broken glass was found after an on site check. We are still looking at footage carefully and will update with further information in due course.”

David opened up to the BBC on Monday about the incident, saying the group was “really offended” by the accusations.

“We’ve never had use of drugs and we really don’t want to spread this message,” continued bassist Victoria De Angelis.
