Emilia Clarke to Star in Marvel’s ‘Secret Invasion’ at Disney+

Emilia Clarke may have left Game of Thrones in the past, but she is in final negotiations to join another highly anticipated TV show. Variety reports that Clarke is set to star in Secret Invasion, an upcoming Marvel Studios series heading to Disney+.

While details of her role haven’t been released, we do know that Clarke will be joined by previously announced series stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Olivia Colman. Secret Invasion is her first appearance in any Marvel project.

Secret Invasion marks one of many upcoming Marvel series premiering on Disney+ after shows like WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier hit the platform earlier this year. Secret Invasion is described as a “crossover comic event,” per Disney+, that “showcases a faction of shape-shifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years.” Jackson will reprise his role as Nick Fury, while Mendelsohn will play the Skrull Talos, a role he played in Captain Marvel. Disney+ hasn’t revealed further casting details, Ben-Adir is expected to play the series’ villain, according to Variety.

Clarke joins Secret Invasion after a string of film roles, including Above Suspicion, Last Christmas, Murder Manual and the upcoming Amazing Maurice. While she’s known best as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, she’s also appeared in shows like Futurama, Robot Chicken, and Animals. Her other credits include the 2016 drama Me Before You and 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.

And she’s not the first Game of Thrones alum to join the MCU — her former costars Richard Madden and Kit Harington have both signed onto The Eternals, a new film expected to premiere this fall.

While we still have a bit of a wait before Secret Invasion hits Disney+, there are plenty of upcoming Marvel titles to look forward to. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is already underway, while Tom Hiddleston’s Loki is premiering this summer and Hawkeye is expected later this year.
