‘Central Park’ Renewed for Season 3 Ahead of Season 2 Premiere

Cue the music! Apple TV+‘s Central Park has been renewed for Season 3, the streamer announced today. The animated musical, which first premiered on Apple TV+ last summer, will return for its second season on June 25, when the first three episodes will all be released.

Loren Bouchard, the creator behind Bob’s Burgers and Central Park, confirmed the news on social media today. “Seasons 2 and 3 of Central Park mean 29 more episodes, and something like 115 new songs. 115!,” he shared on Twitter. “The people who make this show dazzle me with their talent and ambition and will. Apple and 20th have shown their will too. I’m honored to be a part of something with this much chutzpah.”

Central Park, which also comes from creators Josh Gad and Nora Smith, follows the Tillerman family — Owen (Leslie Odom Jr.), Paige (Kathryn Hahn), Molly (Kristen Bell and Emmy Raver-Lampman) and Cole (Tituss Burgess) — and their lives in New York’s famous Central Park. In the latest season, “Molly experiences the trials and tribulations of adolescence” while “Cole is challenged by a truly embarrassing moment at school.” As for Paige, she “continues to chase down the Mayor’s corruption story,” and Owen “juggles managing the park, his staff, and his family all with a smile on his face.”

Still, the relentless Bitsy (Stanley Tucci) is still working on her “sinister goal of claiming Central Park as her own” with the help of Helen (Daveed Diggs). In a first look at Season 2 released today by Apple, Helen performs a musical number that’s an ode to her hometown of Weehawken, New Jersey.

When Central Park returns to Apple TV+ this summer, Bell won’t be returning as Molly Tillerman, as previously reported. In June, she stepped down from her role as a mixed-race character. “Casting a mixed race character with a white actress undermines the specificity of the mixed race and Black American experience … I am happy to relinquish this role to someone who can give a much more accurate portrayal and I will commit to learning, growing and doing my part for equality and inclusion,” Bell said in a statement. Raver-Lampman will be taking over the role for Season 2.
