Yellowstone fans gearing up for Season 4 have another Kevin Costner drama that’s ready to watch in the meantime. Costner stars in Let Him Go, a Western drama about a retired sheriff, George Blackledge, and his wife, Margaret, (Diane Lane) on the search for their sole grandchild. After the death of their son, the couple is determined to track down the rest of their family, no matter what it takes.
“On paper, the film isn’t at all extraordinary, its characters roughly sketched and left for the cast to fill in,” Decider’s John Serba writes in his Let Him Go movie review. “Thankfully, director Thomas Bezucha has Lane and Costner to carry the dramatic load, bringing great life and depth to those moments when they have to play a lived-in, comfy old couch of a married couple who communicate more in between the words than with the words themselves. You know, the quiet parts speak loudest, and all that. They keep us enthralled and invested in their predicament.”

IS LET HIM GO BASED ON A TRUE STORY?
No, Let Him Go is not a true story. While the gripping tale makes for a good movie, it’s not pulled from real life. Instead, we have director and screenwriter Thomas Bezucha to thank for the Let Him Go story we see on screen.
LET HIM GO TRUE STORY: IS LET HIM GO BASED ON A BOOK?
While Let Him Go isn’t inspired by real-life events, it is based on a novel. The 2013 book of the same name by author Larry Watson inspired the new film. According to The Cinemaholic, there are a few differences between Watson’s novel and the movie, which sets the story in a later decade and switches up a few locations. Watson, who’s been publishing novels since the ’90s, also wrote “Montana 1948,” “As Good As Gone,” and “American Boy.”
