Happy Friday, everyone! The weather in New York is currently resting at a blistering 11 degrees, and it does not look like the cold will let up any time soon. Whether you’re sifting through options on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, or all of the above, hitting up the freshest titles on streaming is always the best way to start a weekend-long marathon. And to make the next 48 hours even more comfortable, we at Decider are here to help you figure out what to watch this weekend and where to stream it!
New Movies and Shows to Stream This Weekend: The Dig, The Little Things and Mortal
This weekend is all about the movies and the A-list Hollywood actors that make them what to watch. Carey Mulligan and Ralph Fiennes will help you kick it off with their new Netflix-original film, The Dig. But don’t chill out for too long after hitting up that streaming platform because over on HBO Max is the premiere of the highly-anticipated The Little Things, starring Denzel Washington, Rami Malek and Jared Leto! And if you are in the mood for something a little more obscure, you should check out Mortal, the Norwegian mystery thriller that is new on Amazon Prime Video this weekend. The clock starts now on these great flicks! And to start, check out some highlights from the great movies and shows now streaming we’ve listed below:
New on Netflix January 29: The Dig
Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman) and Ralph Fiennes (Skyfall) star in The Dig, the latest original drama film new on Netflix this weekend. Based on a true story, this Simon Stone-directed period piece is about an excavator (Fiennes) and his team who, while digging up a burial ground on a woman’s (Mulligan) estate in 1939 England, make a history-altering discovery. The Dig‘s primary storyline serves as a foil to the themes of history, ownership and a country on the brink of war that take one of the most highly-anticipated streaming films of 2021 from a simple dramatization into a beautifully-evergreen piece.
New on HBO Max January 29: The Little Things
We could not be more grateful that Warner Bros has decided to drop its entire 2021 film slate on HBO Max, because it gives us the chance to see films like John Lee Hancock’s The Little Things on HBO this weekend. Starring Hollywood royalty members Denzel Washington, Rami Malek, and Jared Leto, this neo-noir crime psychological thriller film follows Deputy Sheriff Joe “Deke” Deacon (Washington) and LAPD cop Jim Baxter (Malek) who join forces to hunt down a serial killer (Leto) who is terrorizing Los Angeles. But the closer Baxter gets to nabbing the culprit, the more Deke’s past rises to the surface, uncovering disturbing secrets that could threaten more than just the case. Captivating, intense and star-studded, The Little Things is a must-watch film. No, seriously, you must watch it before it is taken off the platform in 30 days!
