‘Minari’ Finally Has a Streaming Release Date

A24 just made it a little easier to catch up on your must-watch movies list: Minari is coming to premium video-on-demand on February 26, following a two-week theatrical run—and virtual screenings—beginning on February 12.

Written and directed by Lee Isaac Chung, Minari is based on Chung’s experience growing up as the son of Korean immigrants, after his dad moved the family to rural Arkansas to start a farm. Despite what the Golden Globes may say—the awards show caught backlash for shutting the film out of the Best Picture race—it’s a distinctly American tale about an immigrant determined to follow his dreams.

Starring Steven Yeun, Han Ye-ri, Noel Kate Cho, and Alan Kim as the most adorable kid ever, Minari has been met with rave reviews from critics ever since its premiere at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, and the Oscar buzz has been brewing ever since. Now, nearly a year later, the film will finally be available to the general public to watch from the safety of their own homes. Here’s everything you need to know about how to watch Minari online.

WHAT IS THE MINARI VOD RELEASE DATE? WHEN WILL MINARI BE ON STREAMING?

Minari is coming to digital on February 26, 2021. You will be able to rent Minari on-demand at a premium price.

WHERE TO WATCH MINARI:

Beginning on February 26, you will be able to rent Minari on Amazon Prime, Google Play, iTunes/Apple TV, Vudu, FandangoNow, or wherever you prefer to purchase digital content. Though the price may vary depending on which platform you use, the suggested price is $19.99, and you will have a 48-hour viewing window to watch after hitting play.

If you’re anxious to watch it at home even sooner, beginning February 12, you can watch the film via A24’s virtual screening room. Currently, tickets are available for 7 p.m. showings every night from February 12 to February 25. Tickets cost $20 apiece, and are in limited supply, so hurry before the time you want is sold out.

WILL MINARI BE ON NETFLIX?

Minari is not headed to Netflix any time in the immediate future. However, there is a chance that Minari will someday be streaming on Netflix. Movies from A24 seem to make their way to the streaming service more often than not, like Uncut Gems and Lady Bird. That said, it is not a guarantee! If you’re dying to see the movie everyone is tweeting about, your best bet is to rent Minari on VOD beginning on February 26.

WILL MINARI BE ON AMAZON PRIME FOR FREE?

On February 26, you will have to pay $19.99 to rent Minari on Amazon Prime. However, there is a chance that Minari will eventually be streaming on Amazon Prime for free. The studio A24 inked an output deal with Amazon Prime back in 2013, which allows Prime to get the streaming rights to A24 films after they come out on DVD. However, the most recent A24 films—like Waves, Uncut Gems, and First Cow—have not gone to Amazon Prime for free, so it’s unclear if the deal is still in place. Again, your best chance to watch Minari ASAP is to pay $19.99 to rent the film. It’s worth it!
