Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor Team Up for a Pandemic Heist in ‘Locked Down’ Trailer

Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor are teaming up for the latest pandemic project, but this one steps away from the Zoom screens and takes us into the streets of London. Titled Locked Down, the new comedy from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is set to premiere on HBO Max later this month.

Hathaway and Ejiofor star as a couple who have decided to split up just as the pandemic sends them into lockdown, forcing them to continue living unhappily together. Linda (Hathaway) and Paxton (Ejiofor) are stuck inside, but as HBO Max teases, fueled by poetry and copious amounts of wine, it will bring them closer together in the most surprising way.

Locked Down also stars Stephen Merchant, Mindy Kaling, Lucy Boynton, Dulé Hill, and Jazmyn Simon, along with Ben Stiller and Ben Kingsley. In the first trailer for the upcoming film, Linda and Paxton hatch a plan to steal an expensive, rare diamond from Harrods, London’s famous luxury department store. “What can go wrong?” Linda wonders in today’s trailer, asking the question we’re all thinking.

In an interview with People earlier this week, Hathaway shared what it was like to work on a film about the current moment while the world was in lockdown. “The sheer act of making it, of doing something so collaborative and audacious made us all very focused and open — and strangely free,” she said. “Like the odds were so against us anyway that it made me want to lean into the exhilaration and take risks with my performance.

“It was scary taking my mask off every day, and so I really appreciated how committed the crew was to keeping their masks on — even when we were shooting in hot rooms and they were carrying heavy camera and lighting equipment they were always, always masked,” Hathaway continued. “Their professionalism helped keep me safe, and I was and am incredibly grateful to them.”

Locked Down premieres on HBO Max Thursday, Jan. 14. Watch the full trailer in the video above.
