Leave it to the Black Mirror creators to say what we’ve all been thinking for months: Death to 2020. In just a few days, Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones will be expanding their filmography with a new comedy special about our disastrous year. The Death to 2020 Netflix special will feature appearances from a variety of different celebrities, including Samuel L. Jackson, Hugh Grant, Leslie Jones, and Kumail Nanjiani, among others.

As with all things Black Mirror, Netflix’s Death to 2020 special is a little bit confusing. What is the Death to 2020 release date? Is there a Death to 2020 trailer? Here’s everything you need to know!

WHAT IS THE BLACK MIRROR DEATH TO 2020 SPECIAL?

Black Mirror may be known for its brain-bending sci-fi storylines, but Death to 2020 will be much more lighthearted. Filmed in a mockumentary format, Death to 2020 will follow a group of fictional personalities (all played by big-name stars) as they reflect on the events of the past 12 months.

According to Brooker, the Death to 2020 special will feature some satire “alongside some angry jokes, some goofy jokes.” Added the Black Mirror boss, “Hopefully, viewers will find at least one joke to their liking — because let’s face it, in 2020, any laugh you can emit, no matter how fleeting, is a small but precious victory.”

There’s no shortage of talent in Netflix’s Death to 2020. The comedy special stars Samuel L. Jackson as New Yorkerly News reporter Dash Brackett; Hugh Grant as history professor Tennyson Foss; Kumail Nanjiani as Bark Multiverse, CEO of Shreekr; Tracey Ullman as Queen Elizabeth II; Samson Kayo as Pyrex Flask, scientist; Lisa Kudrow as non-official spokesperson Jeanetta Grace Susan; Diane Morgan as Gemma Nerrick, average citizen; Leslie Jones as behavioral psychologist Dr. Maggie Gravel; Cristin Milioti as soccer mom Kathy Flowers; Joe Keery as Duke Goolies, gig economy millennial; and Laurence Fishburne as the special’s narrator.
