‘One Day At a Time’ Canceled at Pop TV

It’s the end of the road for One Day At a Time, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The sitcom, which originally premiered on Netflix, has been cancelled by ViacomCBS and will end its fourth season earlier than planned. One Day At a Time aired the first part of Season 4 earlier this year on Pop TV, but the coronavirus pandemic forced production on the series to shut down. Now, there are no plans to resume production and Pop TV has declined to order more episodes.

One Day At a Time, a reboot of Norman Lear’s 1970s series, was previously canceled at Netflix in 2019 and later landed on Pop TV, which earlier this year aired an animated special episode of the series that was remotely produced during the pandemic. Series producers Sony Pictures Television plan to shop the show around again like they did in 2018, hoping to find a new home for One Day At a Time without saying goodbye to the show forever.

Co-showrunner Mike Royce confirmed the news today in a Tweet, writing, “Much has changed at Viacom in the last year and unfortunately we won’t be on Pop anymore. Thanks to everybody over there for the opportunity to do season 4. And guess what? We’re still trying for season 5. What if #ODAAT was the first show ever on 3 networks?”
