Netflix’s ‘Cowboy Bebop’ Series Announces Six New Cast Members

Back in 2018 Netflix announced that it would be giving Cowboy Bebop the live action treatment, and today we finally have a better idea of what that’s going to look like. Netflix has announced six cast members for its upcoming adaptation, meaning this epic world is finally starting to get fleshed out.

Geoff Stults, Tamara Tunie, Mason Alexander Park, Rachel House, Ann Troung, and Hoa Xuande will all be joining this new adaptation. Stults, who recently starred in Little Fires Everywhere, will be playing the Western lawman and Jet’s personal rival Chalmers. Black Earth Rising and Dietland’s Tunie will be tackling the role of Ana, the proprietor of the hottest jazz club on Mars. She will be joined by her second-in-command Gren, who will be played by Hedwig and the Angry Inch‘s Park. Representing the more deadly characters in this cutthroat world are House’s Mao, the Capo of the Syndicate’s “White Tigers” family as well as Troung and Xuande’s Shin and Lin, the Syndicate’s twin henchmen. Prior to Cowboy Bebop House starred in Thor Ragnarök and is set to star in Pixar’s Soul. Troung is best known for her work in Strikeback!, and Xuande is best known for Top of the Lake.

These six will be joining Cowboy Bebop‘s previously announced cast. John Cho is already set to play the impossibly cool cowboy bounty hunter Spike Spiegel. Additionally, Mustafa Shakir will play Jet Black; Daniella Pineda will play Faye Valentine; Alex Hassell will play Vicious; and Elena Satine will play Julia.

Hearing more about Cowboy Bebop’s casting process is exciting in that it proves that this project is actually happening. But there’s another reason to get pumped about this news. Except for John Cho, most of Cowboy Bebop’s cast has so far been composed of lesser known actors. That indicates that Netflix may be paying more attention to talent and chemistry rather than star power. And when it comes to a series as ambitious and wide-reaching as this one, that’s essential.

The series is being headed by André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner with the anime’s original director, Shinichiro Watanabe, serving as a consultant. We still don’t know when this new adaptation will be released. But we know we’re ready for it.
