‘The Craft’ Remake Will Premiere on Prime Video Just in Time for Halloween

Amazon sneakily announced a premiere date for the reboot of the cult classic movie, The Craftthis afternoon. While it was never revealed if the project would hit theaters or go right to streaming, it looks like we finally have an answer. The Blumhouse project, which puts a new spin on the 1996 fantasy film, was included in today’s list of upcoming movies and shows on Prime Video landing on the platform next month. And according to Amazon, we’ll be getting a 2020 version of The Craft on Oct. 27, just in time for Halloween.

The remake sticks to the original plot, following a group of high schoolers who form a coven of witches, but this time around, we’ve got an updated cast. The Craft coming to Prime Video next month stars Michelle Monaghan, David Duchovny and Cailee Spaeny, and comes from director Zoe Lister-Jones, who also wrote the new screenplay. News of the reboot was first revealed in 2019, and the project began filming last October.

Details about the film are still being kept under wraps, but during an interview with Collider earlier this year, Monaghan — whose role in The Craft has yet to be revealed — teased the upcoming movie. “It’s a terrific group of young actresses. It was a really female production. It was fantastic,” she said. “Zoe’s just really smart. It’s spooky but also really timely and relevant, you know in terms of what it’s about and how she reimagined it.”

The original version of The Craft starred Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell and Rachel True as the coven of teen witches. Tunney played Sarah, the lead of the film and the new girl at a Catholic school who meets and befriends a group of magic-practicing students who use spells to get revenge on those who’ve wronged them. While it initially received mixed reviews, it’s gone on to become a fan favorite, gaining a devoted following over the years.
