Meghan McCain Supports Joe Rogan’s Trump-Biden Debate Idea: “I Would Love to See It”

Meghan McCain is fully onboard with Joe Rogan‘s offer to host a debate between President Trump and Vice President Biden. On Tuesday morning, The View co-host praised the idea and said that unlike “old school journalists,” Rogan, a MMA commentator and podcaster, would ask both candidates “uncomfortable questions” and really dig deep on policy issues. “If Trump ends up doing an interview with Joe Rogan, it could be very fascinating and a game-changer,” said McCain.

“[Trump] just agreed to allow podcaster and UFC commentator Joe Rogan moderate a presidential debate,” said The View‘s Whoopi Goldberg at the beginning of the Hot Topics segment. “Is this a good move for anybody, and is this a good move for Biden?”

McCain was the first to respond, explaining that she’s “a Joe Rogan listener and a Joe Rogan fan” even though he’s been outspoken with his criticism of The View. “Anyone who doesn’t follow him — Joe Rogan is a juggernaut,” she said, “He has 200 million uniques on his podcast. In the past month he just signed a historic deal with Spotify. He has an absolutely huge audience. He’s controversial to some people; to other people he’s basically the everyman who’s speaking truth to power.”

“I was personally disappointed with the debate moderator choices, and I’m very disappointed in the way our media has been questioning both of these candidates,” continued McCain, adding that the American public “deserves better” than the traditional debate format. “The idea that we’re going to have very old-school journalists, no disrespect to the people who were chosen, and we only get one hour and we can’t stream, is really not going to be sufficient.”

The conservative firebrand added that for these reasons, she “would love to see” Rogan moderate a Trump-Biden debate, but “there’s probably no way” it would actually happen.

When Sunny Hostin argued that Rogan would be an inappropriate moderator choice because he has a history of making “misogynistic, racist, homophobic comments,” McCain pushed back. “There needs to be a new watershed of people who are allowed to moderate these debates,” she said. “I think it feels very dated and very old. Do you disagree?”

“I do disagree,” replied Hostin. “I am a traditionalist, as you know. I think that journalists should be hosting these debates … There are journalists who are quite capable.”

The two weren’t able to come to an agreement on the Joe Rogan issue, but Joy Behar did offer one out-there solution. “The View, maybe we could do it?” she joked. “That’d be something.”
