Netflix Cancels 'Julie and the Phantoms' After One Season
Netflix has another hit on their hands with Julie and the Phantoms, a family-friendly series from High School Musical director Kenny Ortega. The series, which debuted its first season Sept. 10, follows Julie, a teenage girl who is trying to get her love for music back after the death of her mom, who was a songwriter. One night, while Julie is in her mom’s old studio, she’s surprised by three unlikely guests.
This is where the phantoms come in, as a boy band who died in 1995 after they ate some bad hot dogs. At first, Julie is rightfully freaked out by the boys — Luke (Charlie Gillespie), Alex (Owen Joyner), and Reggie (Jeremy Shada) — but she comes around to them, and they slowly help her rediscover her passion for music.

Charlie Gillespie plays Luke, one third of the ghost boy band on Julie and the Phantoms. Gillespie is an actor from Canada who has been in the industry since 2014.
HOW OLD IS CHARLIE GILLESPIE?
Gillespie may play a teen boy band member in Julie and the Phantoms, but he’s a couple of years out of his teens in real life. The actor recently turned 22 years old on Aug. 26, according to Distractify. Julie and the Phantoms director Kenny Ortega shared his own birthday tribute to the series star, writing, “What a magnificent year it has been coming to know you, and work with you. You bring a light into this world!”
WHAT ELSE HAS CHARLIE GILLESPIE APPEARED IN?
Before Gillespie snagged the role of Julie and the Phantoms’ Luke, he was a working actor who had appeared in multiple films and shows. Gillespie has also appeared in Degrassi: The Next Class, The CW’s Charmed series, and the Chris Pine Black Dahlia drama I Am the Night. His most recent role before Julie and the Phantoms is from this year, when he starred in Runt, a thriller about high school seniors, bullying and violence.
