Netflix has announced the addition of a few high-profile stars to its upcoming western film The Harder They Fall which is definitely one of our top films to look out for. The movie touts a Black-dominated cast and is directed by Jeymes Samuel. It was first announced back in fall 2019 with Idris Elba and Jonathan Majors starring, but now has now upped its game with even a number of 2020 awards season contenders.
The latest cast additions are the one and only Regina King, Zazie Beetz, Delroy Lindo, and Lakeith Stanfield. The film, which is set to debut in 2021, will also feature actors RJ Cyler, Danielle Deadwyler, and Edi Gathegi.
Directed co-written by Samuel, who is also known as a musician and producer of The Bullitts, The Harder They Fall centers on outlaw Nat Love (Majors), who discovers that his enemy, Rufus Buck (Idris Elba), is being released from prison, which motivates him to reunite his gang in order to track down Rufus in seek of revenge.
The movie is to be produced by Jay-Z, who has a connection to Samuel from his collaboration with The Bullitts on The Great Gatsby soundtrack. The musical duo will team up once again to produce original music for this film. James Lassiter and Lawrence Bender are also attached to produce. According to IndieWire, production will soon begin.
Majors adds this film to his repertoire after an incredible role in Da 5 Bloods opposite Lindo and while currently involved in HBO’s popular Lovecraft Country. Regina King just launched her title One Night in Miami at the Venice Film Festival, where she made history as the first Black female director in the main category. The film will be released by Amazon Studios later this year.
